8.2 Therion evolution
Fig. 95. Therion timeline
8.2.1 Version 0.2
8.2.2 Version 0.3
Version 0.3.9 was out Aug. 30, 2005.
Version 0.3.10 was out Apr. 5, 2006.
8.2.3 Version 0.4
Version 0.4.0 was out Oct. 2, 2006.
It included the new 3D viewer named LOCH [S. Mudrak].
Version 0.4.1 was out ... 2006 [soon after].
8.2.4 Version 0.5
Version 0.5.0 was out Feb 2, 2007.
It includes [M. Budaj]
- geodetic coordinates support including transformation between systems
- automatic magnetic declination calculation
- new formats: ESRI shapefile, GoogleEarth KML
- improved scrap morphing algorithm
- background sketches -- can be displayed morphed in XTherion and also
in output PDF maps
- PDF preview toolbox in XTherion: specified file is automatically
displayed and updated on Linux and Win32
- ability to combine more maps in one file (e.g. plan and elevation)
- custom attributes for all objects
- system command in thconfig
Version 0.5.1 came out on August 29, 2007. The new features include:
- the ability to display overlying maps at an offset;
- LRUD envelopes for maps exported from centerline data only;
- user defined types (with custom subtype) for points, lines, and areas.
There is new configuration mode for Linux users:
make config-debian
.
To compile
loch
you need to have installed a few necessary
packages: wxWidgets-devel, VTK-devel, freetype-devel, libpng-devel.
At the same time
xtherion
was also improved, with symbol themes and
translations comboboxes, DXF/SVG import and autocompletion in symbol type
comboboxes.
8.2.5 Wiki
8.2.6 "Conference"
Therion mailing list (the "conference") is the best place for users
to communicate anong themselves, to ask questions and to get answers.
It is also a place for the users to let the developer know
about their needs, and thus to steer therion
evolution to
fulfill the needs of the community.
The archives of the list are available through the wiki website at
The following figure (taken from gmane.comp.gis.therion)
shows the list activity since may 2005.
The list is not too heavy, but it is not hibernated either.

8.2.7 Projects
TODO
8.2.8 TODO list
This is the TODO list for version 0.5.0.
See the file
TODO.S in therion, for a complete and accurate list.
- possibility to offset portions of the map, and join then with arrows
- import "3d" and "plt" files via lxFile
- LRUD
- LRUD walls in shape files
- generation of LRUD envelope by lxFile
- LRUD features in morphing
- NOT_LRUD flag to lox shots, when there exists shot point in scrap
- 2d: LRUD envelope of exported survey maps
- absolute coordinate specification in centerline and scraps
- associate section line with section scrap
- new points:
- camera
- picture (with hyperlink)
- spring
- sink
- lake
- doline
- comment (how is this different from remark ?)
- new lines:
- moonmilk
- rope With options: "anchor" on/off/auto (point option)
and "line-adjust" on/off/auto
- fixed-ladder
- rope-ladder
- via-ferrata
- new areas:
- flowstone (sorrounded by line flowstone or moonmilk)
- shapefile export:
- LRUD walls (see above)
- areas
- import with the option "origin [x y z units]"
- redo tests directory structure
- not to use "-walls off" exporting "plt" files
- some comment to continuation
- a fast mode for xtherion (only survey and map structure)
- warning if a backreading differs too much from the reading
- no joins where start and end point are identical
- new surface line symbols
- dripline
- cliff
- landform
- surface-contour (or -altitude)
- map coloring with user-defined table, different color modes for
chapter or color by date (explo or topo)
Add saturation as a color parameter
- add bookmark to PDF files (map?)
- user-defined map headers (using a metalanguage like HTML)
- add rotation of 3d surface into surface calibration
- debug: add survey name under scrap name when debug scrap-names
- layout:
- depth-bar [position| off ] - support for multiple depth-bars
- grid-bar [position|off] [position|off] - support for multiple
grid bars.
s_depthbar() - divide into pieces (to fit into figure size),
s_gridbar() - divide into pieces (to fit into figure size).
- add statistics survey
- therion --protractor
- automatic selection of top-level maps up to basic maps if exists
- 3d: fix bug with internal hole, where no part of it is wall
Other items are on a wish-list ("would be nice to have"):
- find different distortion measure
- export database:
- format text|txt
- export loop closure data
- surface selection according to coverage
- 2D: all surfaces that covers current map sorted by size and coverage
- 3D: make a surface selection and clipping
- output of under/overlying maps in a different place + draw joining
arrows to previews
- add support for output units (date format, feets etc...)
- preview beside
- add support for multiple metapost files (more than 4096 scraps)
- add -map-level scrap to select: each scrap will be a separate map
- multiple selections in thconfig file
- error when two similar points in a scrap
There are similar lists for xtherion
, and there are annotaions
for the internals of the program (not in english).
The file TODO.M
refers to The Therion Book, and is not in english.
Finally the file TODO.SM
(also not in english) ...
